Job Title: Financial Controller
Location: On-siteRemote/Hybrid
Type: Full-Time
Reports to: Managing Partner / CFO
The Role
As our Financial Controller, you will own the financial health of the firm. You will be responsible for all aspects of financial management, from day-to-day accounting to strategic financial planning. You will work closely with the Partners and leadership team to provide actionable insights, ensure compliance, and support our ambitious growth trajectory. This is a hands-on role—you will be both building the systems and executing the work.
Key Responsibilities
-
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Provide variance analysis and actionable insights to leadership.
-
Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts. Partner with department heads to track performance against budget and identify risks and opportunities.
-
Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the firm maintains healthy liquidity. Optimize working capital and manage relationships with banking partners.
-
Revenue Recognition & Project Accounting: Oversee revenue recognition in line with consulting engagement contracts. Track project profitability and provide insights to engagement teams.
-
Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, tax filings, and audits. Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors.
-
Payroll & Benefits Administration: Oversee payroll processing, benefits administration, and expense reimbursements. Ensure accuracy and timeliness.
-
Internal Controls & Process Improvement: Build and maintain robust internal controls. Identify inefficiencies and implement tech-forward solutions to streamline financial operations. We hate bureaucracy; help us keep it lean.
-
Strategic Partnership: Serve as a trusted advisor to the Partners. Provide financial modeling and analysis to support strategic decisions, including pricing, investments, and expansion.
-
Team Leadership: As we grow, you will build and mentor a finance team. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work yourself in the meantime.
Who You Are
-
Experienced: You have 5–8+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a Controller or similar leadership role. Experience in professional services, consulting, or a project-based environment is highly preferred.
-
Qualified: CPA, CMA, or equivalent qualification is strongly preferred. A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
-
Detail-Oriented: You have a keen eye for accuracy and a zero-tolerance approach to errors. You sweat the small stuff so the big picture stays clear.
-
Strategic: You can zoom out to see the big picture while still managing the details. You are a problem-solver who can translate financial data into business insights.
-
Tech-Savvy: You are proficient with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, etc.), Excel/Google Sheets (advanced), and have experience implementing or optimizing financial systems. You pick up new tools quickly.
-
Adaptable: You thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. You can handle ambiguity and build structure where none exists.
-
A Communicator: You can explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. You are approachable and can build relationships across all levels of the firm.
-
Discreet: You handle confidential information with absolute integrity.
Why Join Us?
-
Growth: We are growing fast. As we expand, so will your role and responsibilities.
-
Culture: We are young, social, and collaborative. We work hard, but we celebrate our wins together.
-
Impact: You will have a direct impact on the company’s efficiency and culture. Your voice will be heard.
-
Compensation: Competitive salary, performance bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package.
